How Good is Your Word?

Something that's always been important to me is being as good as one's word. In my own life, this exhibits itself in everything from being on time for appointments, to answering questions as thoroughly as I'm able, to playing it straight and not trying to maneuver or do fancy "negotiations."

I cannot tell lies. I have a face that tells everything, and besides, I have so much in my head all the time, if I'm not honest, I can't remember what stories I've told. Negotiations and manipulation make me highly uncomfortable. Thus, I don't ever want to wheel and deal for a car, and I hate negotiating a house price.

My life with my dear husband is all the better because he has only one rule in his life...don't say one thing and do another. Don't agree to be home at 10:00 and show up at 10:15 (my daughter learned that the hard way). Be true to your word, true to yourself, and we won't have any problems. If he makes a commitment, he sticks to it, come hell or high water. He's one of the most honorable people I know.

We do well together. Lately, though, we aren't doing so well in what the world, and doing business in that world, is becoming. We still believe people mean what they say. We're going to have to make some adjustments.

I am VERY much in agreement with yours and Gerry's way of thinking! True, everyone has emergencies which arise and may change or at least delay an intended action. But in those cases (which ideally should be RARE)the person with the delay should IMMEDIATELY explain it, then make good on his or her word as SOON as possible. I cannot imagine HAVING any clients if I didn't honor my agreement to have their editing ready by the expected date. I'm easygoing - everyone who knows me knows that. But one thing I'm a STICKLER about is a PROMISE. I keep mine. If someone makes a promise to me, I EXPECT it to be kept. I may not SAY anything if they don't, but I won't forget and I won't be quick to trust that person's word again. I so understand where this post originated, and the person in question deserves NO trust. He caused you and Gerry not only stress and dismay, but also cost you time & money. Sadly, there's no retribution but only, I'm sure, a bad taste left in your mouths for him. You WILL sell that gorgeous house! If I were rich, I'D buy it! Stay strong!

I have no clue what this is all about but I'm sorry that someone let you down.

Not sure what this is about, but I am assuming the sale of your house fell through? What a disappointment for you and I am so sorry if this is what happened. We were on the other end of things when we bought our present home- we have discovered the woman lied about almost everything. She is long gone and we are stuck with this nightmare of a house. I detest a liar- about anything (in business or even socially), but the world seems to be full of them. I've have had friendships end over lies- if I find a friend has lied to me about even little things, I no longer trust them. If they will lie to me about little things, I then know they will also lie to me about big things.
Interesting topic, Sue! LOL!
